BIFF blocks Cotabato- Gensan road – ABS CBN News

ABS – CBN | MAGUINDANAO – Around 20 armed members of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) blocked the Cotabato- Gensan road at Barangay Bagan, Guindulungan, Maguindanao past 3 a.m. Saturday.

Initial reports said two trailer trucks, a ten wheeler truck and a car traversing the national highway were flagged down by armed men. The four drivers and their companions were ordered by the armed group to vacate the vehicles and to just stay on the side of the road.

One of the drivers who refused to give his identity for security reasons said the armed men pointed their guns at them.

The armed men then drove the four vehicles making a horizontal line that blocked the main road.

“Sabi nila wag daw kami tumakbo kasi pag tumakbo kami babarilin nila kami. May mga van pa na dadaan sana pero pinabalik nila. Nung umalis na sila sabi lang nila matulog na lang daw muna kami,” said one of the drivers.

The armed men left the drivers unharmed but took away some of their keys and cellphone.

According to Guindulungan PNP Chief Police Senior Inspector Zukarnain Kunakon, BIFF members are trying to sabotage Christmas celebration.

“Ang nangyayari pag Christmas o Ramadan pag katapusan na niyan, ganyan na ang ginagawa nila to sabotage Christmas,” said Kunakon.

Members of the 603rd Brigade and the PNP secured the area after the incident.

Motorists were already allowed to pass the area at around 7 a.m.

BIFF spokesperson Abu Missry Mama admitted that their group was responsible for the incident.
